A practice planner for Hal Leonard teaching materials

Hal Leonard publishes many teaching materials, so “practice the next exercise” can be ambiguous. A shared notebook works best when it names the specific series and instrument book. Essential Elements is one example of materials a teacher might organize alongside their own lesson directions.

Preserve the full exercise reference

Record the series, book number, instrument and exercise title or number. For ensemble students, also name the entrance or section that needs attention. Clear references help the student move between private lessons and group work without assuming that every player has the same printed part.

Keep publisher resources and practice reports connected

When using an official companion resource, put the teacher’s directions and an appropriate link with the assignment. The student can report what changed after working with that resource. Access to publisher materials remains separate: the notebook does not unlock an online subscription or copy protected exercises into its own library.

Teacher assigns
Open the exact instrument book and exercise selected in the lesson. Isolate the marked entrance, then reconnect the preceding two measures.
Student reports
The entrance works alone. I still miss the start when I play through the preceding rest.
Teacher reviews
Check the count through the rest and hear the same short lead-in before expanding the passage.

Before the next session

  • Name series, book and instrument.
  • Use the exact exercise reference and focus.
  • Keep official resource access separate from the practice log.

Does this integrate with Essential Elements Interactive?

No automatic integration is provided. Teachers can reference their chosen materials and resources in assignments, while students use any required publisher access separately. Maestro Planner is not affiliated with Hal Leonard.
