A practice planner alongside Piano Adventures

Piano Adventures work can span Lesson, Theory, Technique & Artistry and Performance books. A useful assignment explains both where to go and what to explore there. Maestro Planner gives those directions a place beside the student’s notes without supplying or replacing the books.

Keep coordinated book work recognizable

Include the series, level and book name before a page or piece title. If the teacher connects a technique task with a performance piece, say what the student should carry from one into the other. That relationship can be easy to understand during the lesson and easy to forget a few days later.

Ask about the musical result

A completed page tells the teacher less than a short description of what became easier. Ask the student to note whether the assigned articulation, balance or phrase shape carried into the piece. Record tempo only when it serves the task, and use a consistent passage label when comparing reports across the week.

Teacher assigns
Revisit the teacher-selected Technique & Artistry task, then apply its agreed focus to the marked phrase in the Performance Book.
Student reports
The movement feels familiar in the exercise, but I forget it when I concentrate on the notes in the piece.
Teacher reviews
Return to the marked phrase and reduce the amount played at once while reconnecting the technique and sound.

Before the next session

  • Name the exact series, level and book.
  • Explain the connection between coordinated tasks.
  • Log how the focus transferred into the piece.
